NSCDC arrests 4 ‘black marketers’ for fabricating vehicle tanks

Operatives of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have arrested four ‘black marketers’ for fabricating huge extra tanks in their vehicles.

Mr Ibrahim Idris , the command’s Public Relations Officer, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.

He said the suspects were apprehended on Tuesday with ‘hugely constructed tanks’ in their vehicles buying fuel at some filling stations in Kano metropolis.

“In an effort to checkmate the illicit activities in the sale and distribution of petrol, the monitoring team of the NSCDC has arrested four black marketers.

“They were apprehended with hugely constructed tanks in their vehicles consuming fuel in some filling stations at the detriment of the public.

“Each of the fabricated tanks can contain between 300 and 500 litres of fuel,’’ he said.

Idris said the suspects and their four vehicles are in the custody of the NSCDC while the product they had siphoned would be taken to the filling stations and discharge to their ground tanks.

“We will make sure that the fuel is sold to members of the public at the approved government price of N145 per litre,” Idris said.

He disclosed that the operatives have also intercepted a truck loaded with 66, 000 litres of petrol along Kano-Gwarzo Road being diverted to unknown destination.

He said the driver of the vehicle and one other person were also arrested and were now in the custody of the corps.

“The NSCDC will take the truck and its content to its original destination in order to be sold to the public,” he said. (NAN)
