The Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has nabbed a 39-year-old driver, Dare Omoju, for allegedly impregnating the 14-year-old daughter of his neighbour.
The State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr Pedro Awili, revealed this at the state headquarters of the Corps in Alagbaka, Akure, the Ondo State capital, where the suspects were paraded.
Awili, who told newsmen that the suspect and the victim’s parent were living in the same area, said that the girl had allegedly been earlier molested and defiled by the suspect’s son, Femi before he took over and impregnated her.
“In our investigation, Omoju’s son (Femi) has earlier had sexual intercourse with the girl some years back and the father having discovered that took over from his son and continue the business of having sexual intercourse with the girl.
“And presently the girl is two months pregnant,” Awili said.
Narrating how the escapade started, the victim, who is now moving to SS 2, claimed that Omoju had been sleeping with her since she was in JSS 3.
“The first time, he gave me N500 and N300 in second time.
“The first time he slept with me was when I came to play with his daughter who is my age mate and I slept off that day while I was sleeping in the night he came to where I slept in the sitting room and raped me.
“There was a day I was with his daughter in his house also, he sent his daughter on errand while I was still in their house he slept with me before his daughter came back.
“It was my mother that discover the pregnancy when I was spitting around before she took me to hospital for test.
“And when the test showed positive I was forced to confess who made me pregnant before I told my parents that it was Omoju that pregnanted me,” she said.
However, Omoju, who is living at No 38, Ajegunle Street, behind Lao in Akure denied having sexual intercourse with the girl, insisting that the girl was lying against him.
Awili, who noted that abuse of minor and defilement had becoming rampant in the state, said that NSCDC is collaborating with the other security agencies to checkmate the vice.
He also appealed that the public should assist the Corps by providing information so as to prevent any planned crime from happening.
“Any information given will not be divulged or expose the informant. We are going to protect the informant.
“We also call on those people in the habit of planning evil or committing crime here and there to stop because all the security agencies have vowed to ensure that peace continue to remain in the state.
“If you are caught, the law will take the cause. So, it’s better to stay away from crime so that you can be a free citizen of the country.”
