The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has warned syndicates planning to stage protest, using Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in order to undermine the existing peaceful atmosphere in the state, to desist from doing so or face the wrath of the law.
The Commandant NSCDC, Ibrahim Abdullahi, gave the warning in an interview with newsmen in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital yesterday, following protest by the IDPs in Maiduguri on Thursday last week.
According to him, the IDPs were instigated by some unscrupulous elements in the society who were not happy with the normalcy that had returned to the state, hence working tirelessly to disrupt the peace by overheating the polity.
“The command also uncovered plans by some of these people trying to use IDPs to stage-manage protest in Dalori 2 camp.
“Some arrests have already been made by the command and we discovered that the planners are not even IDPs but hoodlums who are trying to cause disunity, chaos and confusion.
“It is unfortunate that these syndicates were gaining support of some IDPs who were given food through the government household feeding program to carter for themselves but sold it in the market.
“It is crystal clear that some of the IDPs have turned to food merchants. They get food from government and donor agencies but sell it in the market and with the assistance of these syndicates then organise protest against the government that they are dying of hunger.
“We have proof, we have apprehended so many of them, but they will tell you that they sell the foodstuffs to enable them transport themselves back home, which is blatant lies.
“Some of them will go back home and later resurface when they hear that the government or donor agencies will be distributing relief materials again.
“The command, therefore, warn perpetrators of such unpatriotic act to desist from such or face the full wrath of the law,” said Abdullahi.
