Head coach of MFM FC, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has insisted his team is not fighting to become the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions.

The newcomers thrashed Akwa United 3-0 in a Match Day 14 clash, played at the Agege Township Stadium in Lagos on Saturday.

Sikiru Olatubosun scored twice, while Stephen Odey also netted, as Olukoya Boys took all three points.

Ilechukwu stated afterwards, that their priority was to avoid relegation.

“Our target in the top flight is first and foremost to avoid relegation not to win the league shield as I do not want to put myself under unnecessary pressure,” he told SuperSport.

“I’m not fighting for the league trophy, I just want to continue playing our normal game and chance getting the desired result.

“However, if we are able to win a continental ticket at the end of the day we will be exceedingly happy.

“Right now our focus has shifted to the next match at Lobi Stars after we have accomplished the task against Akwa United.

“We are happy with the massive win hoping we will continue to produce wonderful result in other matches.”

MFM now have 22 points from 14 games.
