Nigeria Professional Football League leaders Plateau United on Sunday suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat against Niger Tornadoes in a Northern Derby held at the Lokoja Confluence stadium, Kogi State.
Samuel Agba’s 5th minute penalty kick in the first half was enough to give the Ikon Allah boys three points in Lokoja.
Niger tornadoes came close in the 11 minute to double their lead but were stopped by Plateau United goalkeeper who punched out the ball from his eighteen yard box.
Plateau United re-strategised in the beginning of the second half but failed to convert most of their chances before the final whistle.
Speaking shortly after the match, coach of Plateau United, Kennedy Boboye said his boys came to Lokoja to win but expressed frustration with the officiating.
Niger tornadoes coach Bala Abubakar while expressing satisfaction with the performance of his team in the match noted that he was looking forward to grab at least a point in his next match at the mid week.
Niger Tornadoes next match will be away against Gombe United FC on Wednesday 19th July, while Plateau United will play host to Ifeanyi Uba FC same day in Jos.
