Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions, Plateau United, suffered their second defeat of the season, after they lost 2-0 to Kano Pillars on Wednesday.
Junior Lokosa scored both goals for the Sai Masu Gida in the 21st and 27th minutes at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
The victory takes Pillars to third position in the table, while Plateau United remain second behind Akwa United.
Akwa United maintained top spot in the table following a 1-1 draw against FC IfeanyiUbah in Nnewi.
In other games, Sunshine Stars beat El-Kanemi Warriors 1-0, Abia Warriors lost 1-0 at Enyimba and MFM FC returned to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Wikki Tourists.
Yobe Desert Stars also secured a narrow 1-0 win against in Damaturu.
