Wikki Tourists chairman, Isa Matori, has debunked stories that coach Abdu Maikaba deceived the club, before signing for Akwa United.
Maikaba quit the Bauchi team earlier this month and has agreed a two-year deal with the Promise Keepers. He is expected to be officially unveiled this week.
There have been speculations that Maikaba did not carry Wikki along with his decision to quit, but Matori has denied such stories.
“We were very much aware of his intention to change environment immediately after the conclusion of the league,” he said.
“He did not make it official then because he was not sure if the agreement with his employers will be sealed.
“Now that he has concluded agreement with Akwa United, he has officially submitted his letter of resignation and the management gladly accepted it and wished him well.
“Wikki sincerely appreciate the fact that coach Maikaba served us for two seasons without any problems.”
Maikaba led Wikki to a third-place finish last season, which means they will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in their history.
