Wikki Tourists’ midfielder, Harrison Madu, has confessed he is still disappointed over how their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title chase collapsed.
The Bauchi club occupied the top position in the league for several weeks, before they were toppled by eventual winners, Enugu Rangers.
Wikki finished in third place with 57 points from 36 matches, behind Rangers and Rivers United. That means they will play in next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
“The winning mentality in our fold is the fundamental source of reaching the height we are today. Our main aim was to lift the league title, but our best was not enough,” Madu told npfl.ng.
“It is important we take the same mentality to the continent, when hostilities commence in the Confederation Cup. The mindset of being a champion emanates from the psyche a team is built on and such had been the strength that kept us going.
“At this stage, all we need is the same fire to spur us on. So I urge the management to encourage the team for us to be strong contenders on the continent.”
Madu also refused to speak about his future and said he was looking forward to playing on the continent.
“I think the opportunity of playing in Africa a great privilege, so it is a cause I have been longing to bear. I am really willing to make a name for myself at that level next season,” he added.
“Many people have tried to know my next destination, but the fact remains that I am still a Wikki player. Although I have offers from some of the big clubs, which I will listen to before the new season kicks off.
“To be candid, playing on the continent, could be the only deciding factor for any possible transfer.”
