NPFL: LMC fines Gombe United N3.25million, bans fans

The League Management Company (LMC) has slammed a N3.25million fine on Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Gombe United, following crowd trouble during Wednesday’s Match Day 19 rescheduled fixture against champions Enugu Rangers in Gombe.

Gombe officials and fans disrupted the game which ended 3-3.

The LMC announced the sanctions on their verified Twitter handle on Friday.

“The LMC has charged Gombe Utd for breaching the NPFL Framework and Rules in Wednesday’s game vs Rangers International.

“Gombe United breached NPFL rules after some of their supporters several times threw objects, including stones, towards the field of play in which a Rangers player was struck.

“Some of Gombe United supporters encroached the technical area and field of play particularly in added time and at the end of the NPFL match.

“Gombe United also failed to control their officials, particularly those who occupied the technical area during the NPFL match.

“Gombe United have been further charged for their supporters’ assault on their team’s goalkeeper Emmanuel Fabiyi – an act capable of bringing the NPFL to disrepute.

“A fine of N1 million has been imposed on Gombe United for acts of throwing objects towards the field of play during the NPFL game.

“For acts of encroachment in the NPFL match, Gombe United have also been fined N1 million.

“Gombe United are further fined N1 million for failing to ensure proper conduct of their officials during the NPFL match.

“A fine of N250,000 has been imposed on Gombe United for the misconduct of their supporters in their assault on their team’s goalkeeper.

“Due to disturbances in the course of the NPFL match, Gombe Utd shall play their next two home matches behind closed doors.

“Gombe United will also bear the cost of medical treatment for goalkeeper Emmanuel Fabiyi who was assaulted by the club’s supporters.

“Gombe Utd are required to identify and ensure the persons who assaulted Fabiyi are apprehended and prosecuted. Failure incurs a fine of N25,000 per day until culprits are apprehended and charged to court.

“Gombe Utd have 48 hours to appeal to the sanctions or elect to be dealt by a commission,” the LMC statement reads.
