NPFL: Kano Pillars sink Yobe Desert 1-0 in Damaturu

Yobe Desert Stars have suffered another defeat after visiting Kano Pillars won them by a lone goal in the ongoing Nigerian Professional Football League match day 20.

Held at August 27 Stadium Thursday evening in Damaturu, Adamu Hassan’s goal in the 10th minute of the first half of the encounter gave the visitors an early lead.

The home team struggled hard in the second half in order to equate the score but Pillars’ defensive line proved impenetrable.

The match ended 1-0 in favour of Kano Pillars, where the away win has elevated the team to a second position in the Group ‘B’ table of the NPFL with 34 points haven played 20 games in both home and away.

In a post match interview with sports journalists, Kano Pillars’ Technical Adviser, Ibrahim Musa, said it was a hard won encounter considering state of the pitch which was very unfavourable to his players.

“The pitch is not favourable to us, because we are not use to that ground, but we managed to get what we wanted.

“Despite Desert Stars looming relegation, it’s a good team. They came all out to defend their title, that was why the game was not easy for us”, Musa attested.

On the other hand, the Technical Adviser of Yobe Desert Stars, Taye Yusuf described the match as good one, noting that Kano Pillars were not a team that can be belittled.

“My boys have played a fantastic ball, but we were not lucky to get goals.

“Losing is part of football, every club is prone to either be relegated or promoted. Even if we are relegated, we are still going to retain those boys in order to build a very strong team for us to find our way back to the NPFL”, he pointed out.

Results from other matches played in the group ‘B’ this evening indicated that, Go-Round played 1-1 draw with Plateau United in Port Harcourt, Heartland of Owerri were defeated in an away to Ifeanyi Uba United by 2-1, Gombe United lost to Nassarawa United 2-1 in Lafia while Delta Force FC picked three points at home after defeating Akwa United 2-1.

On May 19, 2019 Yobe Desert Stars would be travelling to Jos for an encounter with Plateau United in match day 21.

Plateau United are also facing relegation, as the club are among the last four of the league table with 26 points having played 20 matches, hence Sunday’s encounter with the Desert Machine is going to be a crucial match.
