El-Kanemi Warriors have confirmed that they will continue to play their homes games in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matches in Maiduguri.
The Borno club have been unable to play before their fans for three years, because of the Boko Haram insurgency. But they returned to Maiduguri in the 2015/2016 season.
Team manager, Baba Ali Jide, says there is no reason to change venues, since peace has returned to the state capital.
“Playing at home in Maiduguri gave a breathe of fresh air considering that for three season we were playing away from home. The joy the fans expressed seeing ElKanemi Warriors play at home was overwhelming. It did motivate the team and that in a way resulted to that excellent home record,” he said.
“We are staying back home next season. Peace has returned to the state so there won’t be need to airlift teams from Abuja again. Plateau United who were our last guest at home last season came to Maiduguri by road and the journey was peaceful.
“Even El-Kanemi Warriors travel by road without any stress. It’s a proof that peace has returned to the state.”
Ali also stated that there was no fixed date, for pre-season activities ahead of next season.
“No date has been set for preseason yet but we shall communicate as soon as date has been confirmed,” he added.
