Defending champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Enugu Rangers, began the defence of their title with a 2-1 defeat at home to Abia Warriors.
New signing Fortune Omoniwari gave the Flying Antelopes the lead in the 10th minute.
But Emeka Isaac’s deflected effort levelled the game in the 22nd minute. Godwin Zaki gave Warriors all three points with a penalty in the second half.
There were home wins for newly-promoted ABS FC and Katsina United.
ABS defeated Akwa United 3-1 in Ilorin, while Katsina United outscored Gombe United 2-1.
