Norway pledges support for Ogoni clean-up

Norway has pledged its support for the implementation of the United Nations Environmental Programme, UNEP, report on Ogoni.

Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Jens Petter Kjemprud said this in an interview with newsmen on his visit to oil impacted sites in Ogoni.

The Norwegian Envoy, Ambassador Kjemprud said the world was interested in the ongoing clean up of Ogoni, adding that Norway, as one of the biggest donors of the United Nations, was also committed to the safety of Ogoni People.

“From what I have observed, Ogonis have been really patient to see this clean up come through and it is expected that the people should begin to see the reality of the clean up,” he said.

On his part, Project Coordinator of Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Program, Marvin Dekil said HYPREP was following procedures as cited by the UN to clean Ogoni.

Dekil said apart from the Health Impact Study which over four thousand Ogonis have benefited from, HYPREP is working assiduously to provide portable water for the people.
