A coalition of youth groups in the Northern part of the country, under the aegis of Coalition of Northern Youths, CNY has carpeted deposed Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Mustapha Jokolo, describing his remarks on Vice President Namadi Sambo as unfortunate.
The coalition, in a statement released Monday in Kaduna and signed by its president and secretary, Dr. Mohammed Gwandu and David Shandom respectively, said it wouldn’t have replied Jokolo if not for the nature of the statement credited to him at a time the North needs unity.
“We are forced to hold this press conference to tell the world that the Vice President, Arch. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, remains our leader in the North and we shall not take it lightly with whoever wants to disparage him.”
The coalition wondered why such a statement is coming from the deposed emir at a time the North should be putting its house in order in view of the coming elections, adding that “it is most uncharitable for the deposed emir to assert that our leader, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arch. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, has no political relevance in the north.”
The statement reads in part, “Our attention has been drawn to a statement credited to deposed emir of Gwandu, Mustapha Jokolo that the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arch Mohammed Namadi Sambo is a political liability to his boss, President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the 2015 presidential election.
“The statement is not only unfortunate but most uncharitable, especially coming from a highly respected traditional ruler like Jokolo. We expected traditional rulers like the deposed emir to dwell on what will bring the people of the North together and NOT what will dismember them as a people in dire need of unity. Ordinarily we wouldn’t have reacted to this but coming from a highly respected northerner, we are constrained to do so.
“We expect the emir to use his wealth of experience to help us on how the north can surmount the problems confronting us at the moment. Problem such as the insecurity in the North-East that had rendered states like Borno, Yobe and Adamawa incapacitated in terms of governance. But here we are, seeing and hearing our own traditional ruler bringing down one of his own.
“We find this statement absurd and uncharitable and we by this press conference warn the deposed Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Mustapha Jokolo, who by his antecedent has unquenchable appetite in disrobing his superiors, to remain silence or else, we shall be forced to expose him beyond his imagination.
“We call on the people of the North to ignore the ranting of the deposed emir and rally round the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Arch. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, our leader and the President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to resounding victory in the 2015 presidential election.”
It will be recalled that Jokolo, a former ADC to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari said recently that VP Sambo is a political liability to President Jonathan and that it would a political suicide for the president to keep him as his running mate for the 2015 presidential election.
