Northern Youths urge Buhari to confirm Magu as EFCC boss

North East Youth Peace Development and Empowerment Initiative (NEYPDEI) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Assembly to confirm the appointment of Acting Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

In a statement by its National President, Alhaji Kyari Abubakar, the NEYPEI noted that the confirmation of Magu would impact positively on the ongoing war against corruption by the present administration.

“We are convinced beyond all doubts that the confirmation of Mr. Magu who led a successful investigations against some high profile politicians when he was head of Economic Governance Unit of the anti-graft agency would lead to successful war against corruption,” he said.

Abubakar said the promise by Magu to revisit the cases of some former governors whose prosecution and trials were stalled would bring more positive results in the fight against corruption and other economic and financial crimes in the country.

“Magu’s achievements since he joined the anti-graft agency during the time of former Chairman of EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu is legendary and we believe he has the pedigree to champion a new course for the fight against corruption in the country,” he added.
