Northern Governors ask Boko Haram to halt renewed violence, urges military to persevere

The Northern States Governors’ Forum, NSGF, has again pleaded with violent Islamic group, Boko Haram, to give peace a chance and stop the renewed violence in the Northern region, DailyPost can report.

Chairman of the forum and Niger State Governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu, said that the recent attacks in parts of Borno and Yobe states on Thursday, was against the ongoing peace initiative.

In a statement in Abuja signed by Governor Aliyu’s chief press secretary, Danladi Ndayebo, the forum expressed concern at the fresh wave of attacks which left nine policemen dead and many buildings destroyed in Bama, Borno State and Gashua, Yobe State.

The forum said “The death of the policemen was a great national loss.”

It described the deceased as heroes who died in the course of service to their father land, and prayed that God would grant repose to their souls and give their families and friends the fortitude to bear the loss.

The statement urged the Military, the Police and other security agencies not to be discouraged by the dastardly act, stressing that the nation would forever remain grateful to security agencies for the successes recorded so far in the war against terrorism.
