North will allow power shift to South if David West is picked as president – Ango Abdullahi

Spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum, NEF, Prof. Ango Abdullahi Sunday affirmed that the north would allow another Southerner in the person of former petroleum Minister, Tam David West to emerge as the president only if he is anointed for the 2015 presidential race.

He gave this condition while speaking on a Kaduna based Liberty Radio programme, Guest of the Week.

Abdullahi, a former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, who has been canvassing for a northern president in 2015, seems to have swallowed his words when he said he would support a candidate like Prof. Tam David West as a potential presidential candidate from the South-South.

According to him, most Nigerians no longer trust President Goodluck Jonathan because he had betrayed the process that brought him into office.

“I have challenged somebody and told him that let them produce Prof. Tam David West as presidential candidate from the South South, I will raise my hands in support because of the issue of competence. There is no way you can compare the President with David West in terms of their records of achievement. There is no doubt in my mind that Tam David West can run this country more efficiently than the current President.

“I am trying to raise the moral ground on which I will not trust the current president because he has not been trustworthy. If he wanted to be trustworthy, he would have to go to the north and say, I was VP to Yar’Adua under a zoning arrangement and that if Umaru had lived, he would have been President for eight years; but Umaru has died and we know it is the right of the North for the remaining period.

“If he had acknowledged this understanding, it would have been purely a different matter,” he said.
