The Association of Nollywood Artists, Enugu State chapter, on Sunday threw its weight behind Okechukwu Ezea of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as their preferred candidate for the governorship election in the State.
The group announced its position after an interaction with Ezea at his residence in Enugu.
Veteran actor, Amechi Muonagor said they came to listen to Ezea and that they. had seen that he is actually the person who would bring about the positive change in Enugu State.
Muonagor explained that they came to see if the APC candidate indeed has what it takes to bring about the desired change and after interacting with him, they became convinced that he has quite a lot to offer the State.
“I actually came because I belonged to the group of people that needed this change. I heard about him. I read about him. I have also come to listen to him. I have seen truly that he is actually the man who is going to bring that positive change.
“I have read his manifesto, which he has confirmed to me and listened to most of the explanation being made. So, why won’t I support him? If you remember what happened in Imo State. I was among those that flagged off Rochas Campaign there. Today, I am happy because he has done quite a lot for that State. We have seen a lot of changes.
“Following the manifesto as it were is my major reason of being here. I just came to find out if indeed he has what it takes to bring that change.
“The people are suffering. We have more than enough that can sustain Nigeria. I see that change in him. That is why I am here and I will come out with full force to give him that support” Muonagor said.
Muonagor promised to be part of Ezea’s campaign and to come around to see that things work out so that the people could have the relief they were clamouring for.
He lauded Ezea’s manifesto, especially his youth empowerment, poverty alleviation and job creation, and therefore urged the electorate to come out and vote for him
In a similar vein, another veteran actor, Kingley-Paul Onyia, described Ezea as a man with tenacity of purpose and somebody who has a lot of life touching programmes for the people.
“There are certain things he said about the present government that I liked. He was not biased. He was able to say urban roads were taken care off. Security was taken care. We have night life.
“I would have been disappointed if he said there was nothing good about this government. It means he knows where to start from. What else do you want me to say?
“That is the kind of person we want; somebody who will do better. Not somebody saying that this person did nothing. We are all witnesses to what is happening in Enugu, in terms of the facelift giving urban roads” Onyia said.
Lending his voice, award winning actor, Uchenna Nwodo, said they were fighting one cause to see that they deliver somebody who has something to offer the state.
Nwodo disclosed that they have been holding series of meetings and their efforts can never be in vain. Earlier, Ezea commended the association, describing it as a crop of celebrities.
He urged the artists to join APC in the campaign for change in the country.
He regretted that frustration leads youths in the country to engage in criminal activities and decried youth involvement in thuggery and other acts of violence during electioneering.
Ezea however said if elected as Governor, his administration would create commercial hubs in Enugu State, to be located at Obollo-Afor, Ninth Mile Corner and Aki na Ukwa Junction.
State Chairman of APC, Ben Nwoye promised that the party would establish film villages in the State to enhance employment and create better opportunities for Nollywood actors in the country.
