Contrary to speculations that there is a rift between President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice-President Namadi Sambo, the camp of the latter has denied the existence of such.
In recent days, the media has been crammed with reports which suggest that Sambo used the opportunity of Obasanjo’s visit to Kaduna to mobilise traditional rulers against Jonathan’s alleged re-election bid.
The former president had visited the family of the former state Governor, Patrick Yakowa who died in a chopper crash alongside a former National Security Adviser, Andrew Azazi, on December 15 in Bayelsa State.
A source in the Presidency said the President in fact was aware of Obasanjo’s visit.
“Whoever is saying that the President was not aware of Obasanjo’s visit to the state is only lying. The former President traveled on a presidential jet.
“I am sure you know that those in charge of presidential jets could not have released one of them to Obasanjo without the President’s approval.
“It is also important to note that the President has not complained about this issue. That news report was based on falsehood.”
Also speaking, Senior Special Assistant to the VP on Media and Publicity, Mr. Umar Sani, said both his boss and Jonathan were in good terms.
