No pressure on Iheanacho to fill Aguero’s boots – Guardiola

Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has said that Kelechi Iheanacho is not under any pressure, to up his game during Sergio Aguero’s four-match ban.

Aguero will miss domestic fixtures against Leicester City, Watford, Arsenal and Hull City, after he was sent off for a nasty challenge on Chelsea defender David Luiz, during their 3-1 defeat to the leaders last Saturday.

Iheanacho previously stood in for the Argentine striker, when he served a three-match suspension earlier this season. But Guardiola is keen to play down expectations for the Super Eagles forward, who has scored 13 times in 18 starts for City.

“There is no pressure on Kelechi Iheanacho, he just has to do his job,” Guardiola is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

Iheanacho scored for City as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Celtic in the Champions League on Tuesday and he is relishing the opportunity of standing in for Aguero.

“I have the responsibility now to be the striker in the team and replace Sergio for four games,” he commented.

“[Celtic] are a good side with quality players and we are pleased to get a draw.

“It wasn’t the result we wanted but we are pleased. We responded well to going behind and I am pleased to score.”

City finished second behind Barcelona in their group.
