No plans to impeach Ondo Deputy Governor – Mimiko

The Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko today faulted a report that there was an ongoing plan to impeach his Deputy, Alhaji Ali Olanusi over alleged non-performance.

The Governor, in a swift reaction to the report in his office at Alagbaka akure, the State Capital while receiving officials of MTN said the report was planned by some enemies of the state to further frustrate his government.

He added that the report was baseless, urging the public to disregard it.

Mimiko denied directing the State House of Assembly to begin the impeachment process on Olanusi, adding that there was no any plan to replace his Deputy.

According to the report published by some national dailies, the Assembly has set machinery in motion to impeach Olanusi, over alleged non-performance due to his ill health.

The report added that the governor has been so concerned about the health of his Deputy.

It was also revealed in the report that Olanusi and Mimiko have met and agreed that he,( Olanusi) should produce someone who will replace him.

The report further disclosed that the Deputy Governor submitted his son’s name as his replacement.

Due to this, the governor was reported to have disagreed with Olanusi on his decision of picking his son as his replacement.

But while reacting on arrival from Abuja, Mimiko said, “I have been receiving messages, calls and also heard this on “BBC Hausa Radio Station” that we are planning to replace our Deputy Governor. I will like to confirm to you that there is no such plan.

“As the governor of Ondo state, I am not aware of such plan. Nobody is planning to impeach my Deputy. He is still part of this government and very active and still have a lot to offer to the present administration and the people of the state. I will like the public to disregard such report”.

Olanusi, who was a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Chairman has been Mimiko’s Deputy since the first term of the ruling Labour Party (LP) which began in February 24, 2009.

He was also sworn-in as Deputy Governor early this year despite speculation that he would be dropped by Mimiko.
