Senator Jonathan Zwingina, the chairman of the state congress committee of the All Progressives Congress for Abia state, on Sunday, said no parallel congress held in the state on Saturday.
This follows media report that a factional group in the party held a parallel congress on Saturday in the state.
Speaking to newsmen in a press conference held on Sunday, in Umuahia, the state capital, Zwingina reaffirmed that Honorable Donatus Nwankpa was the substantive chairman of APC in Abia state.
He said,”I want to tell you that there is nothing called parallel congress in APC. There is no provision in our constitution for parallel congress.
“As far we are concerned, there was no parallel congress held in Abia state on Saturday”.
“What we have in APC is an appeal. Because as members of the family, if someone is aggrieved, we make provision for correction”.
The committee chairman also disclosed to newsmen that its report was ready for submission at the headquarters of the party in Abuja.
According to him, “Our report to the national headquarters is ready. They are actually waiting for us. And as soon as I get to the headquarters, I will submit it.
“I want also inform you that the appeal panel has arrived. I am supposed to give them report before I leave Abia. Everything is going well in accordance with the guidelines of the APC”.
