The Ondo State Health Commissioner, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, on Monday debunked rumours that cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) has spread to some parts of the state. Adeyanju gave the clarification while addressing a large gathering of youths in Akure, the State Capital.

He explained that the rumoured case at Erusu- Akoko and Akure were other illness, which had nothing to do with Ebola Virus Disease.

He added that the government was doing everything possible to step up its surveillance around the state.

Adeyanju said: “Immediately we heard the rumuor, we dispatched a crack team of health personnel, including epidemiologists and we discovered that it wasn’t true.

“The person at Erusu has a case of prolong tuberculosis, while the patient in Akure had just been delivered of a baby and bleeding. But we are not leaving any chances for granted”.

He added that government had also placed strict surveillance across the state boarders to prevent any transportation of the virus to the state.

“We have also intensified our sensitisation in media and door to door approach and will roll our emergency numbers very soon”, he said.

Adeyanju, who advised the people to always use effective sanitizers, also noted that personal and environment hygiene remained key to keeping the virus at bay.

He expressed optimism that Ebola Virus Disease(EVD) would soon be a thing of the past in the country.
