No amnesty for corrupt public office holders – Rivers state government

The Rivers State government has said there will be no amnesty for corrupt public officials in the state.

State Commissioner for information and communication, Austin Tam-George stated this while addressing the media in Port Harcourt.

The Commissioner disclosed that the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike will remain committed to its moral obligation of keeping watch over the management of the common wealth of Rivers State.

He pointed out that all public officials who violated the public trust, through the misuse of public fund would be held responsible.

The Rivers State government also said the All Progressives Congress-led federal Government should extend its claimed anti-corruption campaign beyond financial corruption to addressing the structural imbalances that characterize Nigeria’s federalism.

The Commissioner who described, accountability as a critical component of governance, said it was necessary to unravel the questionable expenditure profile of the previous administration, noting that; “It would be a gross injustice to Rivers people if we don’t find out what happened to over 3 trillion naira expended by the Rotimi Amaechi administration, this is the only State where there was no handover of even a scrap of paper, glossing over such impropriety will hunt us in the future.”
