The Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, has swiftly reacted to the report released by the Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative, NEITI, on the current rot in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
NEITI in its report had exposed huge irregularities in the operation of the corporation between 2009 and 2011.
The Agency had said the discovery was worrisome and that it was an indication of impending national disaster.
CPC in a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Engr. Rotimi Fashakin, said that “Out of the 445,000 barrels per day meant for local consumption, NNPC sells 356,000 barrels per day thereby making revenue amounting to about $35.6 million daily, despite the Nigerian people’s continued suffering from prohibitive fuel sales without any reasonable palliative or safety nest.”
They party also lamented the sufferings of the masses, affirming thus: “We share the anguish of all Nigerians that the NNPC, in the last three years, has become a cesspool of audacious corruption. The burgeoning army of unemployed youths and the attendant socio-economic implications arising from this development portend grave danger for the Nigerian state.”
“CPC therefore call on the National Assembly to restore order through the constitutional provision by bringing errant executive authority to path of straightness,” the statement added.
