Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra,IPOB, Wednesday, shutdown the Alaba International Market in Ojo area of Lagos to call for the release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
The Biafra proponents demanded the unconditional dismissal of the case against Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who had been the operator of the pirate Radio Biafra.
However, few hours into the protest, the agitators were said to have called off the demonstration when the news of discharge of the case against Kanu at a Magistrate Court in Abuja filtered in.
IPOB earlier planned to hold its rally along the Alaba International Market axis, as well as visit several embassies and high commissions, Amnesty International and United Nations, UN, offices, in Victoria Island and Ikoyi axis of Lagos, to deliver protest letters.
One of the protesters, identified only as Ubah, told newsmen that the protest started in the morning, and ended around 1 pm when news filtered in that the case against the detained Director had been struck out.
“We are law-abiding citizens of Nigeria and we also have the right to protest when the need arises.”
It was gathered that policemen from the Ojo, Ajangbadi, and FESTAC Area E Command were with the protesters to ensure it did not turn violent.
