NLC urges Buhari to probe Jonathan’s fuel subsidy policy, electricity

Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday in Abuja urged incoming President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the fuel subsidy regime of President Goodluck Jonathan.

NLC made the call over the current fuel scarcity in many parts of Nigeria.

NLC President, Ayuba Wabba, spoke on the sidelines of the interactive session for delegates billed to attend the International Labour Organisation (ILO) conference holding in Geneva, Switzerland.

He said: “We believe that the ongoing fuel scarcity in the country was deliberate, and the only lasting solution to the debacle is for the incoming administration to dislodge the cabal in the sector most of whom have held the nation by the jugular for a very long time.

“Sometimes, I wonder why these set of people would rather prefer exporting our crude oil and import same back than local refining”.

The NLC leader also said the $40 billion so far spent on the power sector must be investigated.

He wondered why Nigeria’s power generation still stands at 2,600MW despite funds sunk into it.

Wabba noted that “every time there is a change of guard, those cabal would always come together to make lives unbearable for the larger society. It is deliberate. We want government to address the inherent corruption in the system.

“Why is it happening at this time? While is it that we have not experienced this in the last four years?” He queried.
