The Senate presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu rose from an hour closed-door meeting on Wednesday announcing that its Committee on Labour should dialogue with the federal government and the Comrade Ayuba Wabba faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, over the strike called by labour to protest the recent hike in the pump price of petrol to N145 per litre.

The Upper Chamber gave its Committee on Labour two weeks to turn in a report of its findings.

There are two factions in the Nigeria Labour Congress. While the Joe Ajaero’s faction opted out of the strike, the faction led by Wabba described yesterday’s Industrial Court ruling barring the NLC Strike as a black market injunction, stressing that the union will go ahead with its planned industrial action.
