NLC strike: Economic activities shut down in Bauchi as workers comply with Labour directives

Government offices, as well as shops, economic and transportation activities, have been disrupted in Bauchi State.

This is coming following the directive by the Nigeria Labour Congress to all its 36 states branches, including Abuja to go on indefinite strike.

Bauchi State NLC Chairman, Comrade Hashimu Gital exclusively told DAILY POST in an interview on Thursday.

Gital said, the strike followed federal government insensitivity to the plights of Nigerian workers over long demand for increment of minimum wage.

The Chairman regretted that the FG has been paying lip service to the immediate implementation of the minimum wage since it came to power

“The demand for the increment of minimum wage is not a new issue but we feel it’s time to call for the strike after the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum issued to the FG,” said Gital.

He stressed that the strike action was not political and was not aimed at ridiculing any political party in place.

“As I am talking to you, not only government offices are shut down but shops, economic and transportation businesses.

DAILY POST reports that most activities have been paralysed, especially FG, state and LGAs health facilities with patients stranded, thereby returning home.

Mrs Mariya Amoha told DAILY POST in tears that she was today booked for an urgent surgical operation, but had to go back home.

” I don’t know the type of government we are having in place in Nigeria. The way people are suffering under APC administration as if its a curse to have voted it to power is terrible,” Ahoda cried out.
