Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Cross River State Council, has shunned a scheduled meeting with Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State.
The Governor had invited the organized labour for a meeting on Wednesday.
DAILY POST was informed that Governor Ayade waited for the Union in his office on Wednesday for over two hours but left disappointed.
“Not one of the Unions’ member surfaced”, a government official who pleaded for anonymity stated.
The meeting, it was gathered, was to look for a way forward on the planned industrial action by organized labour.
The NLC had given the state government seven days ultimatum to implement the July 2nd MoU signed by both parties.
The ultimatum expired on December 20th.
Speaking with DAILY POST on phone, Chairman of Joint Action Committee, Comrade Edim Oyongha blamed the state government for inviting the Union for a meeting via the state radio.
“Governor Ayade invited Labour on radio and we told him we don’t work like that.
“If he wants to discuss anything with us, he has to give us an official letter.”
The labour leader, however, lamented the attitude of the state government toward MoU, explaining that it was after the signing of the MoU that the first industrial action was called off.
At the time of filing this report, labour was preparing bulletins for fresh strike.
