The Ogun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has disclosed that labour union in the state has rejected the verdict of the panel that recommended the sacking of six civil servants in the state, calling on the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to order a retrial of the sacked workers.
This was stated in Abeokuta, the state capital by the state NLC chairman, Mr. Akeem Ambali, on Wednesday in a telephone interview with The Punch.
According to Ambali, the union does not have confidence in the panel that tried the sacked workers and had demanded that another panel be constituted to retry them.
The NLC boss further disclosed that the union’s position was part of the demands he made when he visited the Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi and members of the Ogun State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
He said: “The state NLC has expressed its lack of confidence in the panel that tried the English Language teacher and other five civil servants in the state over an alleged offensive comprehension examination paper. We demanded that the state should constitute another panel to retry those involved.”
Aside the issue of the sacked workers, Ambali said there was need for the state government to clear the outstanding workers’ cooperative deductions.
He said: “The government had earlier promised to pay all deductions to workers by the end of July but it did not fulfil the promise. There is still that of contributory pension and others. The government needs to enter into negotiation with NLC on how to resolve all this.”
