Nkanu, Nsukka leaders honour Chime, say he is a model for leaders


Political and traditional leaders in the Enugu East (Nkanu) and Enugu North (Nsukka) zones of Enugu State have described the immediate past Governor of Enugu State Sullivan Chime as a model of selfless and egalitarian leadership whose style should be emulated by leaders at all levels in the country.

The leaders who stated this in their separate “thank you” visits to the former Governor in his country home at Udi said they had come to pay home to the man who “finally set Enugu State on the part to greatness, unity and prosperity”.

One of those who spoke for the Enugu East zone, His Royal Highness, Abel Nwobodo, said the Chime administration not only offered the people a new lease of life to through the evenly spread developmental projects, but infused in the a new confidence and belief in government.

“Sullivan Chime is the best example of a selfless, humane, humble and people-oriented leader in this country today”he said.

In their own speeches, leaders of the Enugu North Senatorial Zone said their people cannot thank Mr Chime enough for instating on and bringing to fruition ,the emergence of one of their sons (Ugwuanyi) as the Governor of the state after his tenure.

One of the Speakers and former Commissioner for Information, Mr Chuks Ugwoke said, “We are all aware of the severe attacks and criticisms and all the wars waged against you because you insisted that justice and equity must prevail in Enugu State but we all and indeed the hole of Enugu State, Honour you today for standing firm on these principles and ensuring that peace and justice reigned in Enugu State”.

Speaking on behalf of Local Government Councils in the zones, State Chairman of ALGON Cornelius Nnaji and the Secretary, Cornel Onwubuya said that Chime set records across the for being the only Governor among his contemporaries who released funds accruing the local government councils to the in full. They also noted that he had successfully conducted four local government elections in his tenure stressing that it was far more than any of hs contemporaries were able to do.

In his own speech, the state Governor, Hon Ugwuanyi who was in attendance with his Deputy, Mrs Cecilia Ezeilo, pledged to continue the transformational agenda of his predecessor adding that he I’ll continue to ensure the equitable distribution of resources and development in the state as Chime had done.

Responding, the former Governor thanked the two zones for the overwhelming support they gave his administration noting that things might have been different without it.

He said, “we were able to successfully, navigate all the stormy waters that we were confronted with because of the support you gave us.

“The sweetest thing about leadership is being praised and adored afterwards. This makes one forget all the pains and personal sacrifices that had been made in the course of leadership”.
