The change of leadership at the Bureau for Public Enterprises has turned to good luck for of the Nigerian Telecommunication Limited (NITEL), as the acting Director-General of the Bureau, Benjamin Diki, on Thursday in Abuja approved the payment of six months out of the eleven months salary arrears owed workers.

The D-G also told the delighted team that the payment will be made before the end of the week.

He said this when he received a delegation of the Senior Staff Association of Communication, Transport and Corporation led by the president Elais Kazzah.

Diki stated that approval had been secured for the payment of five months out of the 12 months arrears, being owed workers of M-TEL, the mobile arm of NITEL, while security men attached to the defunct national carrier across the country would be paid three months out of 12 months arrears owed them.

He assured the workers of government’s commitment to their welfare, saying provision of N1.9 billion was made in the 2013 budget for outstanding arrears and salaries, pending the conclusion of the privatisation process of NITEL.

In his remark, the association’s president appreciated the effort of the acting Director-General. He identified critical issues affecting the workers, urging the new helmsman of the agency to take drastic steps to address them.
