Three employees of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) have been sacked over irregularities found in their employment process.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Head, Public Relations, Hajiya Lami Tumaka, on Saturday and made available to newsmen in Lagos.

Tumaka said the three persons were found to have been illegally employed into the agency as their service engagement were fraught with irregularities.

She said the irregularities were revealed following an administrative investigation conducted by the agency.

She said the employment of the three workers shortly before the former Director General, Dr Ziakede Akpobolokemi, left office, did not follow due process required for employment into the civil service.

Tumaka also clarified that only three of NIMASA staff were sacked, contrary to speculations in some sections of the media that the agency disengaged 200 staff.

“Only these three persons whose engagement had wholesome irregularities have been asked to leave,” she said.

The spokesperson said that like every Federal Government agency, the Federal Civil Service rules govern engagement and disengagement of officers in NIMASA.

She appealed to media organisations to contact NIMASA for clarification on issues for facts, or at least conduct preliminary investigations in order not to mislead unsuspecting members of the public and spread disaffection. (NAN)
