The Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, led by Olisa Agbakoba, has revealed that it held marathon meetings with 17 political parties in the country before settling for the Alliance for New Nigeria, as a platform to use in the 2019 general elections.
It expressed readiness to work with the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, which was birthed by former president, Olusegun Obasanjo but has now collapsed into the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
NIM’s National Secretary, Prof. Anthony Kila, who made this known to DAILY POST in an interview, called on opposition parties to join hands in ousting the “failed” administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said, “I think it makes sense for us to team up with the party adopted by the group founded by former president Obasanjo for the 2019 elections. I think it is the responsibility of the opposition in this country to find a way to come together. Like minds should keep coming together. The ANN as a party is not made up of just ANN and NIM. NIM is just the biggest part of the party. There are lots of groups and parties that have adopted that platform. Before NIM adopted ANN. we spoke to about 17 parties in marathon meetings.”
“The idea is to get enough people, enough parties to win (in 2019). There is enough dissatisfaction and the requirement to effect change in the way things are done in the country right now. There is an indication that the incumbent will lose the election. The point is to get the right people in; I think in the mind of Nigerians the Buhari government has had its day. It has been tested and tried and it has failed. The question is that who goes there as replacement and that is what we are working on.”
