Nigerians say Buhari’s visit to US timely

Nigerians have expressed optimism that the 4-day visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the United States of America will bring the unabated destruction of lives and property by the Boko Haram insurgency to an immediate end.

A cross section of Nigerians who spoke with DAILY POST in Kaduna, noted that the headlong discussion between President Buhari and his USA counterpart, Barak Obama, was a welcome development which showed the seriousness of Buhari’s-led government to actually effect positive change in the country’s social system.

Mr. Biyang Gadani said that the President should ensure the US government was committed in combating corruption in the country, which according to him has become the order of the day.

He added, “President Buhari as a military head of state in the 80s proved his capability to restore sanity in the social system by introducing war against indiscipline in the country which paved the way for an end to other social vices in Nigeria.”

He observed that the visit of the President would also help in seeking the assistance of the US government to recover billions of dollars that were allegedly stolen by the past administration of Goodluck Jonathan and kept in various bank accounts in the United States, Switzerland and other European countries.

Making his observation, Mr. Rowland Umaru appealed to President Buhari to leave no stone unturned in asking for the assistance of the United States government to help Nigeria to ensure total cleansing in all ramifications to serve as a pace setter and a blueprint for incoming administrations in the country.

For the formation of the Federal Executive Council, he enjoined the president to look for technocrats irrespective of political affiliations, religion or ethnicity.

Mr. Umaru called on Nigerians to exercise restraint by giving the government of the day a chance to introduce laudable programmes that were meant to bring the dividends of democracy to the benefit of all in the country.
