Nigerians have reacted to an order by President Muhammadu Buhari directing security agencies to tackle the propagation of hate speeches, especially through social media.
Buhari gave the order at a security meeting at the presidential villa in Abuja.
However, reacting to the latest order, Nigerians on social media reminded the government that it is a democratic era, which allows people to express themselves.
Buhari was also reminded that during former president, Good luck Jonathan’s administration, people were free to criticize and talk about the ills of the government publicly.
Here are some comments…
@kmbiammnozie, Who is the Federal Government? Between the Federal Government and we the people who is suppose to monitor the other? Pls help me tell that Federal Govt @AsoRock, power belongs to the people and not you. Very irresponsible Federal Govt if true.
@Tomcruise247, To imagine that this same govt emerged from sustained SM campaigns & propaganda. Anyways, we don’t need SM trends to vote them out in 2019.
@Mbaukan56, When you invite tongue lashing from citizens by your ineptitude, cluelessness, slowness etc, who do you blame. Every bad governance will receive appropriate degree of tongue lashing from concerned citizens. JEG/PDP or PMB/APC will receive appropriate reaction from us!
@Otenesam, But the @AsoRock should know that the pains of #Nigerians have gone beyond social media. Nigerians have found outlets of expression in the arts, fashion, movies, writing, dance etc… Will they also monitor those? Will that solve the security challenges?
@Edezede1, The real critics of @MBuhari are those that genuinely criticized GEJ and embraced the deceptive change mantra, bringing this govt into power. To stalk them on SM is a huge mistake. You can’t stop a moving train. The best you can do is retrace your footsteps.

@tunbosun,We are practicing military democracy under this government. Nigerians brace up for more.
@enamyen, If you have over 5000 followers on any social media site you are a prominent Nigerian. Just stay in your lane, APC knew the damage it caused PDP using SM. As election approaches it wants to stifle SM so it’s not used against it. Buhari is waking up
@piusfree, Its such a pity u lot didn’t see the tyrant @MBuhari is in 2015, I told u lot his administration was symbolized by military brutality in 84/85, you all were on social media say all nonsense, Here we are and it will likely get worse.
@Revjulb, Is this not against the law? To what end does PMB and his adviser want to disturb this nation. I am tired of this.
@Maertmekus, They will have to build more prisons and concentration camps for the many millions that will not be intimidated by this dracolian order.
