Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State has described the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) with other opposition parties in the country as inevitable.
He stated this yesterday while briefing newsmen at the end of the state ACN Elders’ Forum held at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.
Governor Ajimobi observed that the people of Nigeria were tired of the misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since the return of democracy in 1999.
He expressed concern over the continuous pains of Nigerians under the PDP led administration, stressing that the party has been deceiving people and inflicting pains and poverty on them.
According to him, “The coming together will undoubtedly wrestle power from the PDP; it is not only about power really; it is about changes, eliminating poverty; it is about helping our people to have better life.’’
The Governor said that the success of the meeting of the Elders’ Forum was a reflection of the support of the party for the government and also the willingness of the people to eliminate fractionalization and encourage unity within the party.
He said that the meeting was called as a follow-up to the reconciliation efforts during which aggrieved members were reconciled in order to ensure unity within the party. “There is no human organization where you will not have misunderstanding and differences, but it is our duty as leaders to reconcile the differences for the benefit of our party and by extension, the citizenry of Oyo State,’’ the governor said. He described the outcome of the meeting as overwhelming, stressing that it was attended by all party elders from Ibadan, Oyo, Oke Ogun, Ogbomoso, Ibarapa and other zones across the state.
