The erstwhile National Secretary, Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), Chief Ben Obi, has said that Nigerians are yearning for the return of his party in 2019.
According to him, Nigerians want President Muhammadu Buhari to forget about running for a second term.
Obi, who noted that the country is not driving in the right direction, told Newtelegraph “Like I said, we have reinvigorated, rebranded and repositioned the PDP. It depends on what the new leadership are able to do, especially during the next convention that will produce its presidential candidate.
“Once we have all our governors, our major stakeholders and all other major organs of the party in the same page, it’s going to be a tough battle. I believe Nigerians are yearning for the return of the PDP, that’s the truth.
“I think President Buhari should listen to the voices of wisdom, listen to what Nigerians are saying; those outside his party, those who are not politicians, the clergy, the spiritual men of God or Allah, his own people, his family but more importantly, his health.
“If his health is good and robust, well, good, we give God the glory, because when he was ill, everyone of us genuinely prayed for him and I think God has answered that prayer. It is now left for him who has the body to know what the body tells him.
“As for if he is entitled to run, absolutely yes, he has the right to run for second term but then, he should know if it is right to move on to second term.
“He should also measure the successes he has been able to achieve within the period of his first tenure in office. How good he has performed or how bad and as a good friend of his, even though we are in different political parties, my candid advice is; use your tongue, Mr. President to count your teeth.”
