The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Tuesday, made a definite order, directing that federal Judges be paid all their salary arrears on or before Monday, 23rd January, 2017.

While making the order, the deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu who presided over the plenary, described as unfortunate, the situation where Judges working at the Federal level would be owed salaries for months.

Ekweremadu, therefore, asked the Senate committees on Judiciary and Finance to intervene, by ensuring the relevant authorities clear all the outstanding arrears of the Judges before Monday, and report back to the Senate on Tuesday, 24th January, 2017.

This decision was sequel to the point of order raised by the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Bala Ibn N’Allah at the resumption of Tuesday’s plenary.

Na’Allah revealed that the Federal Judges had not received salaries or any other emoluments for the past 4 months, a situation he described as “worrisome and unfortunate.”
