1. Former Delta State Governor, James Onanefe Ibori, returned to Nigeria yesterday. He was, however, picked up by the Department of State Security (DSS) for discussion with the Director, Lawal Daura. He was later set free. Chief Ibori later arrived Oghara in Delta State at about 3pm amid cheers and jubilation.
2. Tuface Idibia has cancelled the planned February 6 protest. The music superstar posted a video announcing the cancellation. The cancellation, according to the artist was due to security concerns and public safety consideration. He said the protest was under serious threat of hijack by interests not aligned with their ideals.
3. Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has frozen his two accounts with the Ado-Ekiti branch of Zenith Bank again. He said he was not allowed to withdraw on Friday, despite a court ruling directing the EFCC to unfreeze his accounts.
4. The much talked about Chelsea and Arsenal game was played on Saturday. The blues further strengthened their position at the top of the League, defeating Arsenal by 3-1 at the Stamford Bridge. They are now 12 point clear on top of the table.
5. The United States has announced that it will comply with a federal judge’s temporary halt on President Donald Trump’s travel ban. The development will restore travel for refugees and for people from seven Muslim-majority countries. US State Department said on Saturday that it had reversed visa revocations. It goes to explain that thousands of people whose visas were not physically canceled after the issuing of the executive order last week may now travel freely.
6. Founder of Enugu-based Adoration Ministries, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has affirmed that those working with President Muhammadu Buhari do not have the interest of the nation at heart. Mbaka noted that although Buhari had the interest of the people at heart, his efforts were being frustrated by those around him.
7. A former governor of the old Anambra State, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has thrown his weight behind the call for an Igbo president in 2019. The former governor said the emergence of an Igbo president would put an end to ethnic-based marginalisation in Nigeria.
8. At least 1,500 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Radda, Charanchi Local Government Area of Katsina State. The defectors joined the former PDP with their leader, who was APC mobilisation officer in the state from 2010 to 2016, Alhaji Mustapha Radda.
9. The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), has called on Christians in the country, to engage in self-defence against Fulani herdsmen, saying that “there is a time to carry swords”. Lagos PFN chairman, Bishop Sola Ore, noted that Fulani herdsmen have caused more havoc than Boko Haram insurgents in Nigeria and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to find a means of ending the menace.
10. The Director, Kano State Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, Abdullahi Chiranchi is dead. Chiranchi died at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital after he was rushed there following complaint of stomach cramps.
