1. Sixteen Local Government Chairmen in Ekiti State have sued the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and governors of the 36 states of the federation over the approval of the sum of $1billion from the Excess Crude Account of the Federation for the fight against insurgency.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1264/17, the council chairmen asked the Abuja division of the Federal High Court to declare the approval of the sum of $1 billion by the 36 state governors as unlawful and therefore, null and void.

2. Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) at the House of Representatives, on Tuesday, staged a walkout during a plenary which was held under rowdy atmosphere.

This was not unconnected to the decision of the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, to align with his All Progressives Congress (APC) members who were in support of the defection of a PDP member, Hon. Nnana Igbokwe.

3. Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Tuesday revealed that state governors resolved to approve money for national security after a national security summit organised by the National Economic Council.

The Vice President who presided over NEC gave the explanation at the opening of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation/Secretaries to State Governments’ retreat at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

4. Nigerian state governors and Speakers of State Houses of Assembly are currently holding an emergency meeting at the State House Conference Centre, (Old Banquet Hall), Abuja.

The forum during the meeting resolved to hold public hearing on ongoing efforts to amend certain sections of the 1999 constitution.

5. Immediate past President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has described the accusations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he purchased his Apo Residential House illegally as spurious, contrived and baseless.

Mark, who was reacting to the claim by the anti-graft agency that he illegally acquired his then official residence as his private property, said the EFCC was only chasing shadows because the property was dully offered for sale, bided for, and he purchased like any other person would in line with Federal Government’s Monetization Policy that was started during the time of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

6. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has explained why it arrested owner of INNOSON Motors, Chief Innocent Chukwuma.

The anti-graft agency said it arrested Chukwuma following his refusal to honor its invitation after jumping an administrative bail.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun West, has rejected the process that led to the emergence of the new national Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus, describing it as charade and injustice.

The Chairman of the PDP in Ogun West Senatorial district, Leye Odunjo, while addressing a press Conference at the party Secretariat in Abeokuta, claimed that the result of the national convention would be challenged in court.

8. Five suspected pirates of Nollywood movies have been arraigned and remanded in prison over copyright infringements.

The accused were David Chukwudi, Austin Igboukwu, Ugochukwu Ukwuagu, Chukwuka David and Ndu Celestine.

9. A 70-year-old man, Adzua Kwagah, has been arrested by men of Benue State Police Command for being in possession of over 1,000 kilogrammes of substance suspected to be marijuana.

The septuagenarian was arrested alongside his 17-year-old son in Afia village, Zaki Biam in Ukum Local Government Area of the state.

10. The special adviser to the President Muhammadu Buhari on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, yesterday, called for the declaration of emergency on the nation’s education sector.

According to him, this would enable the country change the fortunes of the system to produce required manpower skills that could drive the socio-economic development of the nation.
