1. The death has been announced of Aliyu Akwe-Doma, former governor of Nasarawa State.
Akwe-Doma reportedly died after a brief illness at a foreign hospital in Israel, according to a nephew, Ahmed Bako.
2. President Muhammadu Buhari has made known his intention to visit Taraba, Benue, Yobe, Rivers, and Zamfara states.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said, in view of recent terrorist attacks, criminal activities and communal clashes in some States leading to tragic loss of lives and kidnapping of 110 schoolgirls, President Muhammadu Buhari immediately tasked the Armed Forces and other Security agencies to compile comprehensive reports on the various incidents.
3. Sixty-five persons have been charged to court for their alleged involvement in the February 26 crisis in Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, which led to the loss of 12 lives and properties worth millions of Naira.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Nasir el-Rufai on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed this at a briefing in Kaduna.
4. The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, the Head of Service, HoS, Winifred Oyo-Ita and Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, have all been summoned to appear to appear before the House of Representatives over alleged fraud in the administration of pension funds.
The summons were issued yesterday by the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating activities of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms from 2010 to the time of its dissolution and successor agencies.
5. Adhoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, who worked in the Anambra governorship election on November 2017 have protested the non payment of their allowances by the commission.
The protesters who besieged the state INEC headquarters, Awka, carried placards with various inscriptions depicting their displeasure over the non-payment of their entitlements.
6. No fewer than 20 people were injured when students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) and commercial motorcyclists, some of whom were said to be indigenes of the community, engaged themselves in a free for all, on Tuesday.
It was gathered that trouble had started when a student and a commercial motorcyclist had an altercation over fare, which degenerated.
7. Two herdsmen whose names are yet to be identified at the time of filling this report were yesterday arrested by joint security operatives for allegedly butchering a farmer at Akaeze community in Ivo Local government area of Ebonyi State.
The suspects were nabbed after some days of a clash between farmers and herdsmen which resulted to butchering of four persons.
8. Federal Government has again insisted that Boko Haram has been incapacited and degraded.
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who made the pronouncement yesterday said the attacks on Government Science and Technical Girls College, Dapchi, resulting in the abduction of 110 girls, as well as the gruesome murder of United Nations aid workers in Rann, Kalabalge Local Government area of Borno State by the insurgents was meant to send the message that they were winning when the reverse is the case.
9. The U.S. has announced about 533 million dollars in humanitarian assistance for Nigeria, Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Sudan, as well as countries in the Lake Chadregion.
U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said millions of people were facing life-threatening food insecurity and malnutrition as a result of ongoing conflict or prolonged drought in the countries.
10. the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, yesterday kicked against the Hate Speech Bill sponsored by Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi of Niger State, saying it will become an instrument in the hands of politicians to suppress and repress opposition.
National President of the body, Mr Eric Omare, yesterday, in Warri, Delta State, also flayed the constitution of Anti-Hate Speech Commission, noting that the functions of the commission were already being performed by Ministry of Information.
