1. The Kaduna State Government on Tuesday arraigned the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, otherwise known as Shiites, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky before a state high court amid tight security

The IMN leader and his wife were arraigned on eight counts of alleged culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, disturbance of public peace, among other allegations.

2. A two-man panel of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, yesterday discharged a Supreme Court judge, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, of charges of non-declaration of assets.

The tribunal, in its ruling, agreed with the argument of Justice Ngwuta that, as a serving Justice of the Supreme Court, he could not be tried in any court or tribunal, except after he had been subjected to the investigatory and disciplinary processes of the National Judicial Council (NJC).

3. Members of G24 of Kano House of Assembly on Tuesday defied security presence and made a triumphant entry into the premises of the Assembly complex.

They consequently announced the impeachment of the all the principal officers, such as Majority leader, Deputy Majority leader, the minority leader, House leader and the Chief Whip.

4. A Kogi State High Court has struck out the assassination case involving the chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria, in the State, Taofiq Isa, instituted by a Senator from the state, Dino Melaye.

The judge, Fola Ajayi, who struck out the matter for want of diligent prosecution, held that the prosecution counsel could not open his case despite four adjournments, hence he struck out the matter.

5. Vehicular movement in and out of Enugu, the Enugu State capital, along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, were brought to a halt on Tuesday following a protest by tanker drivers on Tuesday.

Report said that the tanker drivers are protesting the alleged shooting and killing of a colleague by a police man at the Nenwe junction of the highway in Aninri Local Government Area of the state.

6. The House of Representatives has jacked up the 2018 budget from the N8.612 trillion figure presented by President Muhammadu Buhari last November to N9,120,334,988,225.

According to the document laid at the House on Tuesday, N530,421,368,624 was proposed for statutory transfer; N2,869,600,351,825 for development fund for capital expenditure; N3,516,477,902,077 for recurrent (non debt) expenditure while N2,203,835,365,699 is for debt service; and N199bn for sinking fund for maturing loan.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari has approved N10bn for the renovation of villages ravaged by herdsmen in Benue and other Nigerian states.

Buhari also promised to do all within his purview to ensure the killing of innocent citizens by the herdsmen came to an end in no distant time.

8. Founder and leader of Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has alleged of fresh plots by jihadists to Islamise the country.

Uwazuruike recalled how the jihadists arrived Kwara State in 1811 AD and after some brief stay killed the Yoruba leader in the state and took over the administration of the area till date.

9. Boko Haram suicide bomber on Tuesday attacked a checkpoint in the volatile Borno State, killing five members of a youth vigilante group.

Spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency, North East Zonal Office, Maiduguri, Abdulkadir Ibrahim said those also injured were currently receiving treatment at undisclosed hospital in the state.

10. Germany has proposed a new process that will facilitate the smooth repatriation of over 30,000 illegal Nigerian migrants back to the country.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama said this when he received the Security Adviser to the President of Germany, Dr Jan Hecker, and his team in Abuja.
