1. The Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday blocked all entry and exit from the National Assembly in Abuja.

The development was alleged to be part of a failed plot to effect a change of the Senate leadership on Tuesday.

2. Some staff of the National Assembly, Tuesday morning went wild in celebration over a failed attempt to impeach the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

A video obtained by DAILY POST showed some staff and supporters of the Senate President dancing and singing that the alleged attempt to change the leadership of the National Assembly had failed.

3. Forty-eight senators have signed an agreement to forestall any impeachment process against Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

The lawmakers vowed that they would report President Muhamadu Buhari, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police, among others to the international community.

4. Senator Godswill Akpabio has tendered his resignation as Minority Leader of the Senate.

Akpabio in a letter date August 4, addressed to the Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha, did not state any reason for the resignation, but thanked the senate leadership and referred to the PDP as “our great party”, for giving him the opportunity to lead the caucus for three years.

5. Kano Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has claimed that he personally begged the State House of Assembly not to impeach his former deputy, Hafiz Abubakar, contrary to the claim that he left because of “the current and persistent irreconcilable differences on matters relating to governance, government operations, and personal opinions”.

Ganduje said he was surprised at the “assertion that I disrespected the office of the Deputy Governor”.

6. Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, has sacked the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura.

Daura’s removal was in connection to his alleged involvement in the Tuesday’s invasion of the National Assembly by the DSS officials.

7. The Kogi State House of Assembly on Tuesday declared vacant the seat of the immediate past Speaker of the Assembly, Umar Ahmed Imam, who represents Lokoja I constituency.

The decision to declare Imam’s seat vacant was sequel to a letter sent to the House by the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Bello, a motion moved by the House Majority Leader, Bello Hassan Abdullahi and a letter sent to the House by the former Speaker announcing his defection to a new party.

8. The Benue Youths Forum, the umbrella body of all youth groups in Benue State has raised the alarm over a purported plot to kidnap the Clerk of the Benue House of Assembly, Dr. Torese Agena at all cost to compel him conduct a sitting of the suspended eight members of the House to commence impeachment move against Governor Samuel Ortom.

The group’s National President, Comrade Terrence Kuanum disclosed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Makurdi, lamenting that despite a subsisting court order, security personnel had continued to lay siege on the Assembly complex barring lawmakers and staff of the Assembly access to their offices.

9. Former Deputy Governor of Kano state, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, has finally defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Abubakar, who announced the decision while addressing a news conference in Kano on Tuesday, said his decision to leave APC was necessary in order for him to have a peace of mind, as well as have relevance in the scheme of things.

10. Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo has appointed Mr Matthew Seiyefa as the Acting Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS), following the sack of the former Director-General Lawal Daura on Tuesday.

Seiyefa, who hails from Bayelsa State, was before his new appointment the most senior director in the DSS.
