1. President, United Labour Congress (ULC), Mr Joe Ajaero, on Tuesday said that the organised labour would never sign any agreement with the Federal Government on new National Minimum Wage which is less than N30, 000. Ajaero said that the tripartite committee agreed that N30, 000 would be paid at the end of its negotiation as the New Minimum Wage for workers.
2. The Super Eagles have gone top of Group E, following a 3-2 win over Libya on Tuesday night in Sfax, Tunisia in the ongoing AFCON qualification. Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa gave Nigeria a 2-0 lead, before Mohamed Zubya and Ahmed Benali equalized for the Mediterranean Knights.
3. President Muhammadu Buhari, Tuesday, spoke with Mohammed Liman, father of Hauwa Liman, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) midwife who was slain by Boko Haram terrorists. In a telephone call, Buhari commiserated with the family and told Miss Liman’s father that the Nigerian government did everything possible to save his daughter’s life, expressing sadness that all the efforts turned out unsuccessful.
4. President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the forthcoming general elections will be free and fair. The President assured Nigerians and the international community that the election will usher the country into another clime of maturity, peace and unity. According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari said this when he received Letters of Credence from four ambassadors at the State House.
5. The office of Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, has insisted his meetings with President Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had no political undertone. Welby’s spokesman has made it clear the archbishop is strictly neutral and does not make endorsements in elections. He said the choice of the next president is for the Nigerian people to decide.
6. Adamawa Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the killing of four travellers with four others hospitalized in an attack by some youths in Bali village of Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa. The Spokesman of the command, SP Othman Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said investigation had begun towards arresting the perpetrators.
7. Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Senate has approved a total sum of N53bn for the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA. and security agencies. The fund is meant for the supervision of the 2019 general elections. Also to benefit from the fund are the Department of State Services, DSS, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSDC, Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigerian Immigration Service, NIS.
8. Two people including the Paramount Ruler of Elibara community, Eze Oha Augustine Amadionu have been killed in Elibrada, Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State. Eyewitnesses in the community say Eze Oha Amadionu was shot dead by unknown gunmen along with a young man identified as Wayagbo Amadi.
9. A former Minister of Solid Minerals, Kayode Fayemi, has been inaugurated as the new Governor of Ekiti State. His inauguration took place in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, on Tuesday. Fayemi took his oath of office in the presence of party members and supporters.
10. The process of selecting the 2019 consensus presidential flagbearer of the coalition of opposition political parties has started. Coalition of United Political Parties’ spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday evening. He said some top opposition figures met behind closed doors on Monday at the Yaradua Center, Abuja. Ugochinyere disclosed that the decision was taken to start the process that will lead to the eventual emergence of a consensus candidate that will slug it out with President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
