Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Wednesday morning

1. The Nigeria Senate on Tuesday adjourned plenary till Tuesday November 20, 2018, after ten minutes.

Moving the motion for adjournment, the Senate Minority Whip, Philip Aduda stated that the plenary could not form a quorum, hence, the chamber should be closed down, citing Order 10(3)of Senate rules, saying no debate could be validly carried out without a quorum.

2. The Speaker of Anambra State house of Assembly, Rt Hon Rita Maduagwu has been impeached.

Maduagwu was impeached by 22 out of 30 members of the state assembly following a motion moved by a member of the House, Hon Ikemba Uzoezie and seconded by Hon Onyebuchi Offor.

3. Former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja and thousands of his loyalists across the state on Tuesday dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and joined the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The decision to leave ADC and join ZLP was taken Tuesday afternoon after a meeting of his loyalists (Ladoja), at his Ondo Street Ibadan residence.

4. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has warned Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo against bandying debt figures in an attempt to cover the failures of the All Progressives Cobgress, APC, and President Muhammadu Buhari.

The PDP said instead of dishing out figures about the nation’s debt profile, the Vice President should present to Nigerians the scorecard of the present administration.

5. The deputy Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has allegedly resigned.

Ahmed is the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and he is expected to contest against his former boss, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who may fly the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the gubernatorial poll in 2019 elections.

6. Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have intercepted gold worth about N211 million being illegally transported through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

EFCC Acting Head, Media and Publicity, Mr Tony Orilade, disclosed that the consignment was en route Dubai.

7. The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) Lagos State Area Unit has commended the Lagos State Government for upholding the use of Hijab in public schools.

O.O. Olukoya, Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education had in a circular conveyed the government’s approval as an “outcome /recommendations of the panel on the use of Hijab” and urged compliance.

8. No fewer than 1,000 members of Accord Party in Lagos on Tuesday dumped the party to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The new entrants, led by Mrs Omoye Ikhero, a leader of Accord Party in Alimosho, formally defected to the APC at an elaborate ceremony at its secretariat in Ikeja.

9. The Nigerian Army on Tuesday said its troops have arrested a teenage female suicide bomber while attempting to infiltrate into Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The suspect simply identified as Shaidatu Adamu, confessed that she was on a suicide mission in Maiduguri.

10. The All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, has alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, are at the moment facing serious difficulties raising funds for the 2019 presidential election campaigns.

Nabena, in a statement he signed on Tuesday in Abuja, attributed the difficulty in raising the fund to the stringent measures put in place by the present administration.
