Nigerian Newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Wednesday morning

1. The Son-in-law of Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, Uche Nwosu has formally announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Action Alliance, AA.

Uche Nwosu upon defection, said he would emerge the next Governor of the state in 2019.

2. The Publicity Secretary of the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Jones Onwuasoanya, has resigned.

Onwuasoanya described the APC as a cult and not a political party, even as he accused the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, of destroying the platform.

3. The Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) on Tuesday staged a protest at the National Assembly over the non payment of their salaries and allowances.

Some of the banners carried by the protesters have the inscription: ‘enough is enough. ‘the Clerk to the National Assembly has suddenly become stupendous’.

4. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said President Muhammadu Buhari will perform better if re-elected in 2019.

He said Buhari’s honesty, integrity and performance in the past three years in office set him apart from all other contenders for the exalted office.

5. A Federal High Court Judge on Tuesday gave the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police 72 hours, to arrest Diezani Alison-Madueke, former petroleum minister, who is currently in London.

Justice Valentine Ashi of a Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Apo, Abuja, made the order following a motion ex parte moved by counsel to the EFCC, Msuur Denga, praying for an order of the court, to issue a warrant of arrest against Madueke, to enable the Commission apprehend and arraign her for alleged financial crimes in Nigeria.

6. A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential aspirant, Stanley Osifo, on Tuesday threatened to drag the party to court if it fails to address issues surrounding the emergence of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate.

Osifo described the emergence of the Waziri of Adamawa as PDP flag bearer as an imposition.

7. United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington, on Tuesday called on Nigerians to give themselves credible elections in 2019 by avoiding acrimony and standing against electoral malpractices.

He said that because there would be no election anywhere in the world in February, 2019, the attention of the entire globe would be on Nigeria and its citizens to provide credible polls.

8. The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has disclosed that it has been joined in 396 cases arising from the just concluded political party primaries in the country.

INEC also said it has been slammed with fifty two petitions from those who are aggrieved against the Commission.

9. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday broke silence on reports of President Muhammadu Buhari being dead and replaced as Jubril in Aso Rock.

Osinbajo wondered how a certain Jibril from Sudan would be presiding over the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

10. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Tuesday said the sale of registration forms for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation will no longer start in December.

The Head, Media and Information of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, said the board had thought of starting the sale in December but dropped the idea following Federal Government’s reduction in the registration fee with effect from January 2019.
