1. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday, suspended the collation of results for the Rivers State governorship election.
Obo Effanga, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, who announced this at the collation centre in Port Harcourt, the state capital, said the electoral body will continue with the exercise at 10am on Wednesday.
2. A Federal High Court in Abuja, has dismissed a suit by the African Action Congress (AAC), questioning the propriety of handling of the last governorship and State Assembly elections in Rivers State.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, in his judgment on Tuesday, said since the case was election-related, it was appropriate for the plaintiffs to take their case before an election tribunal.
3. The Nigerian Police has named two officers, as suspects in the shooting of Kolade Johnson.
The force name the suspects as Inspector Ogunyemi Olalekan and Sergeant Godwin Orji, saying the two men have been “subjected to internal disciplinary procedures”.
4. The Kogi State House of Assembly has recommended the removal of the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Nasiru Ajanah for alleged gross misconduct.
This followed the adoption of the report and recommendations of the house committee on public account which indicted the Kogi State High Court and Kogi Hajj Commission for financial breaches.
5. The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, on Tuesday, again lambasted Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High court, following the revocation of his bail.
IPOB leader said the Nigerian constitution prohibits trial and conviction of anybody for “offence not written down.”
6. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Imo State chapter has lashed out at the state governor, Rochas Okorocha over the purported appointment of his cronies into the state Judicial Service Commission in the twilight of his administration.
The party described the action of the governor as plots to frustrate the state’s governor-elect, Emeka Ihedioha.
7. Governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in Imo state, Uche Nwosu, has said that he is ready to form a fresh alliance with his former party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in a bid to reclaim his allegedly stolen mandate.
According to him, he has put aside the purported injustice the APC meted on him since the party has realized its mistakes after its poor showing in the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
8. An Abuja High Court on Tuesday, nullified the nomination of Senator Ademola Adeleke as candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the September 22, 2018 governorship election in Osun state.
Delivering judgment in the suit on Tuesday, Justice Oathman Musa annulled Adeleke’s nomination on the grounds that Adeleke offended section 177 of the 1999 constitution as amended, which stipulates that candidates for the position of Governor must be educated up to secondary school level.
9. The Senate on Tuesday adjourned plenary till April 9, to allow its Committee on Appropriation conclude work on the 2019 Budget.
This followed the inability of the Committee to submit its report on the budget as proposed when the Senate adjourned on March 20.NAN reports.
Announcing the committee’s position, its Vice Chairman, Sen. Sonni Ogbuoji, said less than 10 committees out of over 60 had submitted their budget reports to it, and urged the Upper Chamber for a two weeks extension.
10. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to tender an unreserved apology tothe Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, over his ordeal at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The party described Onnoghen’s travails as torture and demanded his immediate reinstatement, stressing that any further progression of the case would debase Nigeria.
