1. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati has faulted the ultimatum given to President Jonathan by the Northern elders Forum, that he must not declare his intention to run in 2015 if the Chibok girls are not rescued within a particular period of time. Abati said the elders’ decision was misguided and misadvised, saying no body can give the President an ultimatum.
2. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, yesterday had a closed door meeting with former President, Olusegun Obasanjo over his 2015 Presidential ambition. Report says the meeting was part of Tambuwal’s consultation with stake holders on the best platform that can give him the ticket to run, come 2015. The outcome of the meeting was however not made public.
3. Osun state Governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola yesterday dedicated his certificate of return to the people of the state for standing by him during the just concluded election, and for the confidence they have on him to run for another term. Aregbesola was speaking at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Headquarters in Osogbo, after the presentation of the certificate of return to him by the supervising National Commissioner, Ambassador Mohammad Wali.
4. Senator representing Anambra Central senatorial zone and former governor of the state, Dr. Chris Ngige, has expressed great fears over the 2015 presidential election. He cautioned yesterday at his campaign office in Awka, that for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to get it right in 2015, it must remove those he described as fraudulent state Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs. He said unless that is done, it would be difficult for INEC to conduct free, fair and credible election.
5. Report says another victim of the Ebola virus disease has died in Lagos. The deceased who was a staff of ECOWAS died on Tuesday after having battled with the virus he contracted from sawyer, the Liberian who exported the disease to the country.
6. The National Council on Health has placed a ban on the movement of corpses and critically ill persons on both local and international routes in the country. The Council said only dead bodies with waivers granted by the Federal Ministry of Health would be transported within and into Nigeria.
7. Northern delegates attending the ongoing National Conference have kicked against the “New Draft Constitution” made available to all the delegates by the leadership of the conference in Abuja on Monday. The northerners said that they were not carried along regarding the emergence of the draft constitution.
8. The current and former leaders of the Ijaw Youth Council Worldwide have disowned a group that recently called on President Goodluck Jonathan not to contest the 2015 presidential election. Spokesperson for the IYC, Mr. Eric Omare, in a statement on Tuesday, said the group does not exist, hence must not be taken seriously.
9. Following his alleged plan to join Ali Modu Sherrif in his move to the PDP, the Borno State House of Assembly yesterday at its sitting impeached the Majority Leader of the House, Idrissa Njidda. His removal is not unconnected to the recommendation by APC stakeholders in Borno State who have accused him of anti party activities.
10. The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday failed to appear before a Federal High Court, Abuja, for the hearing of a suit filed by a former Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Bala Ngilari, who is seeking an order to make him the governor of the state as the law requires. Ngilari’s counsel, Mr. Festus Keyamo, who said INEC had been served with the court processes, told Justice Adeniyi Ademola that the electoral body appeared to be ignoring the case.
